FFU 1

Fotofestival Uničov 1
March 11–31, 2011

The separate exhibitions of the first edition of a festival devoted to photography and its overlaps with other fields are both linked and divided by a single small word: mezi (“in between”). It is a universal key. It marks out the diversity of themes, concepts, styles, and techniques of contemporary photography. It invites an open reading of the exhibitions by Kateřina Držková, Martin Fišr, Michal Kalhous, Milan Krištůfek, Johana Pošová, Michal Reichstäter, Lenka Sedláčková, Tereza Sochorová, Martin Tůma, and Jakub Skokan. It is the emotional register of the opening group exhibition installed in the cinema foyer during Mladá kamera, the long-running festival of amateur and student film. And it is an open question whether the word sad (orchard), attached to Jan Freiberg’s curated exhibition on orcharding, might stand as shorthand for a socially artificial document, an agricultural one, or something else entirely.
