Alžběta Johanka Petrová

Theater educator, director, and dramaturge living in Hostivice near Prague. Her poetry reveals a desire to capture lived moments in their countless glimpses, with a particular sense for the beauty of things seen and a gift for voicing provocative questions. Alongside human relationships, a central theme for her is the Christian faith, which she tries to express in a fresh and personal way—turning it over again and again between her fingers and working her way toward what is life-giving, present, and moving in it, both in relation to herself and to others. Her collection Zastavení (Stations) is written in this spirit; it was inspired by the recent pandemic and its concept draws on the traditional prayer of the Stations of the Cross. She has also published the collection Rodiště (Birthplace), inspired by the place and process of motherhood, and the children’s book V břiše (In the Belly).
