About the author

Dorota Ambrožová

Dorota Ambrožová (b. 1994, Olomouc) is a writer, journalist and documentary filmmaker. At UFF 16 she will give an author reading from her forthcoming novel.

She attracted attention with her novella Poslední léto (The Last Summer, 2024), a brash confession of a teenage girl, which was shortlisted for both the Magnesia Litera award and Deník N’s Book of the Year.

She comes from Olomouc, where she also lives and works. She is married with two children.

Her second book, Naháčci, is about precisely her children; it balances on the border between uncompromising autofiction and tender essay. It describes the period of motherhood when she suffered from insomnia, family traditions and expectations rooted in faith, and the position of a woman who became a mother straight out of school.

In addition to her books, she writes reportage and essays on culture. For three years she produced the podcast Promluv do ní about culture in the Olomouc Region. She studied radio and television dramaturgy and screenwriting at JAMU (Janáček Academy of Performing Arts) in Brno.
