About the author

Martin Salajka

Martin Salajka (b. 1981, Uherské Hradiště) is a Czech painter and printmaker. He studied at the Faculty of Fine Arts in Brno (2002–2006) under J. Načeradský and P. Veselý and at the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague (2005–2008) under M. Rittstein. His main inspiration is landscape and nature full of emotion, darkness, nocturnal animals, and demons. Over time he turned to the theme of urban interiors, especially cities at night, which he lends a dreamlike, often horror-like scenery. He experiments with intensive work with paint, which he rubs and applies onto the surface and then washes away with a stream of water. In 2004 he won first place in the ArsKontakt competition, and in 2018 he received the Print of the Year award in the lithography category.
