Screening in the cell
A continuous screening of two short films in a cell at Šatlava. The program runs on a loop throughout Friday evening, from 18:00 to 22:00.
Maria Lopatyuk: Yokai is sad too (2026, 2:21, in Japanese with English subtitles)
The film presents a supernatural figure from Japanese folklore, torn between myth and modern identity. The yokai, now a melancholy being trying to exist in a human body and in a world marked by loneliness, reflects on the meaning and value of existence and becomes a metaphor for alienation in today’s world.
Beáta Kotrášová: The Spiral of Despair: There Is No Audience to Perform For (2025, 17:16)
The film was the artist’s thesis project, with which she went on to represent her alma mater at a group exhibition in New York. Through meditative introspection on the theme of interspecies relationships, it reflects on collective corporeality and identity, contemplating the endless process of alienation and the inner conflict of loneliness in the search for reconciliation.
