Jiří Šigut

photographyconceptual art

Jiří Šigut (b. 1960, Ostrava) is a Czech conceptual photographer. At the turn of the 1980s and 1990s he abandoned the camera and began working solely with the light-sensitive layer of photographic paper, which he places in nature — in pools, streams, fields, or meadows — where it remains for days or even weeks. Inspired by the music of John Cage, his work reflects the passage of time and the role of chance. In 2019 he received the Amber Award for artists from the Moravian-Silesian Region. He is one of the artists who have fundamentally changed how the artistic possibilities of photography are perceived.
