Fotofestival Uničov 2

Pozval jsem pár přátel, aby se přišli podívat (I Invited a Few Friends to Come and See) was the title of an exhibition by several Czech artists at Galerija Nova in Zagreb in 2006.
In the 1970s, the American artist Tom Marioni repeatedly staged the action The Act of Drinking Beer with Friends Is the Highest Form of Art.
A photo festival as a weekend cottage — that is the concept of the second edition.

The exhibition Fotbal (Football), installed on the staircase of an apartment building on Bří Čapků Street, is an invitation to a few artist friends to visit a town they have already heard so much about from the event’s organizers. The opening is followed by a Saturday afternoon spent together on the playground behind the building, as a “friendly match” between locals and guests.

The exhibition Tis (Yew) is an attempt to convey a past experience, and a new (sacrilegious) expectation as well.
To choose the right title and not have to explain. / The experience of Markéta Othová’s exhibition one summer at Švestka in Prague. Subtle shifts within the image. Installations demonstrating the properties of the photographic apparatus. Quiet commentaries on the conceptual foundations of contemporary photography. At the same time, in the same city, Václav Kopecký at Fotograf. A wall bearing the imprint of a piece of the opposite wall. An image that emerged thanks to light and is slowly fading because of light. / Space and time, the basic constants of any action. / Here and now. (In the same place, at the same time.) Filip Cenek, Václav Kopecký, Antonín Mikšík, Markéta Othová, Matěj Pavlík, Lucia Sceranková, Iveta Schovancová, Sláva Sobotovičová, Jiří Šigut. The spaces in front of and behind the pictures. The firmness of outlines and the guidance of form (little firmness = permeability). Vistas need not be mere reading between the lines, nor remembering nothing more from literary history than that, for a time, poets called it the poetry of everyday life. When strength can be felt with your hands (show your muscles).

As part of the photo festival, the student-run Galerie Dobrý den will present a solo exhibition by the young photographer Ondřej Hruška: Terror Pažíž Uničov.
The exhibition is an assault on the way we perceive the medium of photography and an analysis of the glut of visual information in the street, the town, the pub. Its large-format prints bring it close to “photography in public space,” while its use of a digital point-and-shoot refers to the everyday picture-taking of “enthusiastic amateurs.” / Ondřej Hruška is a photographer and occasional cultural organizer. He studied at the Studio of Advertising Photography in Zlín. He sees photography as “a tool for the future perception of history,” even if only for remembering, tomorrow, what happened last night.
/Marie Vařeková/

A photograph by Markéta Kinterová from the collection of Galerie M.odla, which Daniela Deutelbaum runs in a small display case in an apartment building in Prague-Holešovice, will be on view in the window of a house on Ztracená Street. A three-week loan of a favorite photograph to one’s own room.

(Uničov is a small town not far from Olomouc, best reached by train. You can stay overnight at Dům dětí a mládeže or in the gallery (bring a sleeping bag and a sleeping pad); among guesthouses we recommend Penzion Herrenhof.)

Křečový žíly revival, Ostrý zub, DJ Tuhle písničku chtěl bych ti láska dát + VJ
At the photo festival, Pavel Havrda will found a revival of the band Křečový žíly, whose recording of a 1985 concert at Třemešek near Uničov he discovered in the Libri prohibiti archive. They will perform together with the band Ostrý zub, with which the Olomouc artist and performer Vladimír Havlík returns to Uničov a year after he tried to take root in the Uničov park during last year’s photo festival. The evening’s dance floor belongs to DJ Tuhle písničku chtěl bych ti láska dát + VJ.

Pavel Vančát: Fotograf Jan Svoboda
A native of Bohuňovice, Jan Svoboda (1934–1990) built on the work of Josef Sudek in an original way and developed it further into a distinctive synthesis of minimalism and melancholy. This sightseeing talk on his photographic work and on the places important to his childhood was prepared by Pavel Vančát, author of Svoboda’s recently published monograph.
The talk is organized in cooperation with Muzeum umění Olomouc and is part of the accompanying program for the exhibition of the museum’s photography collection, Civilizované iluze (March 8 – May 20).

31 konců/31 začátků (2011)
After a four-year break during which it did not use text, the art group Rafani returns to the written word, in the form of a film treatise. The film is the logical outcome of the group’s long-term work with the medium of video. Its formal basis is a mapping of Prague’s predominantly alternative culture. This framework serves as a springboard for further lines of meaning, such as movement from the outskirts of the city toward its center, or a trajectory toward power and consciousness. Rather than narration in the strict sense, the work is about movement, expressed through the numbered sequencing of disparate fragments. Each fragment has its own theme and protagonist: for example, Kaspar von Urbach – satellite, Ondřej Slačálek – periphery, Vladimir 518 – center, Michal Viewegh – power, Mark Ther – negation. The film features 21 figures, chiefly from the worlds of contemporary art, literature and political activism. As with other Rafani actions, authorship of the film is collective.

Fotomontáž
A detective exhibition of amateur photographs found in the basement of the Uničov cinema. The photographs come from competitions held in the 1980s, and most of them are anonymous… The exhibition is part of the Museum Night (Muzejní noc).

Martin Strakoš: Mezi Moskvou a Bruselem. Architektura 50. a 60. let 20. století v Československu
(Between Moscow and Brussels: Architecture of the 1950s and 1960s in Czechoslovakia)
A talk by the Ostrava architectural historian Martin Strakoš, and not only about socialist realism. How ordinary household objects were written into architecture, and how sorela (Czech socialist-realist architecture), with its emphasis on folk character and tradition, turned into the fashionable and later widely popular Brussels style. A story about a complicated past and its connections to the present. The talk will be followed by a walk through the town.
The event is part of the Museum Night.
