FRIDAY, JULY 14, 2017
Fri 17.00 — EXHIBITION OPENING
Tereza Benešová, Hanka Kubišová, Petra Steinerová – Táta (Dad)
Galerie U Minoritů, Haškova 217
Tereza Benešová (*1997) – At the Uničov photo festival she will present her series of staged photographs. The work tells of her father, whom she has not seen for more than six years, a man who suddenly vanished from his daughter’s life without a word. With this series, Tereza Benešová successfully completed her studies at the Secondary School of Art in Ostrava this year.
Hanka Kubišová (*1998) – In her final project, this graduate of the Secondary School of Art in Ostrava documents her father after a serious traffic accident. The photographs describe the course of his rehabilitation and his effort to get back on his feet, but also how important family is in moments like these.
Petra Steinerová (*1980) – From 2005 to 2007, Petra Steinerová, a graduate of FAMU in Prague, photographed her father. In the photographs, however, we see a middle-aged woman. A person who, through a new identity, is searching for happiness and inner balance.
Fri 19.00 — EXHIBITION OPENING
Polina Davydenko – Michal Florian
Garáž 2522 (behind the cemetery)
Polina Davydenko (*1995) – A student in Ivars Gravlejs’s photography studio at FaVU VUT in Brno (Faculty of Fine Arts, Brno University of Technology). Her work revolves (in concentric circles) around the genre of classic documentary photography, thematically focused on the trashy culture of the middle class and the places that generate it. While documenting Míša, one of the most famous Czech YouTubers, and his family, Polina struck a “barter deal” with the Florians: a slightly staged, yet still intensely real photograph for the Wikipedia entry of the YouTube channel Mishovy šílenosti.
Fri 20.00 — EVENING SCREENING
Jan Hušek – Babka, Babka 2, Děda Merlot
Šatlava – muzeum vězeňství, Příční 205
Babka (Granny) – A nostalgic trip to Granny’s valley, its hardships and joys, in the company of her grandson.
Babka 2 – The second installment of an intergenerational conversation between a boy and his grandmother.
Děda Merlot (Grandpa Merlot) – Painter, cook, philosopher and pioneer of Jilemnice abstraction.
Jeto Polák (*1994), real name Jan Hušek. 178 cm. 63 kg. A first-year student in the Department of Documentary Film at FAMU.
SATURDAY, JULY 15, 2017
Sat 15.30 — EXHIBITION OPENING
Jan Jindra – Chalupáři (1985) (The Weekend Cottagers)
Výloha bývalé Fotografie, Školní 168
Jan Jindra (*1962) – A teacher at the Studio of Advertising Photography at FMK UTB in Zlín (Faculty of Multimedia Communications, Tomas Bata University), he will present, in Výloha bývalé Fotografie in Uničov, a series of pictures capturing the emptying-out of Prague so characteristic of its time. The photographs were taken while the author was a student at FAMU in Prague.
Sat 16.00 — FAMILY STORIES
Šatlava – muzeum vězeňství, Příční 205
Jitka Ressová (*1970) – Baťovské domky a život v nich (Baťa Houses and Life in Them)
Quarter-houses, half-houses, single houses and other residential buildings for employees of the Baťa company are part of Zlín’s industrial heritage, and most of them are now protected as cultural monuments. Who lived in them? What rules did people have to follow, and what is it like now?
Jan Jindra (*1962) – Heavy Metal Milovice
In addition to the exhibited series Chalupáři, Jan Jindra will present one of his most recent books, on which he collaborated with Vladimir 518. The talk will be not only about the departure of the Soviet troops, but also about a wedding.
Adam Kencki (*1986) – Dům U sta koček
A graduate of Michal Kalhous’s Studio of Fine Art Photography in Ostrava and a student in the master’s program at the Studio of Advertising Photography in Zlín. In Uničov he will present his project Dům U sta koček (The House of a Hundred Cats), in which, since 2012, he has been documenting his friends and family living in a village near Mělník.
Štefan Berec (*1979) is a versatile photographer who, alongside commercial work, focuses mainly on reportage and documentary photography. At the center of his attention is the human being, and above all his own family. He has two sons, and in Uničov he will present their world.
Michal Kalhous (*1967) is not presenting at the Uničov photo festival for the first time. His main theme, the family, was already evident in the exhibition titled “Z Rýč, míč, klíč” (Spade, Ball, Key). At his talk we will learn much more about his records of what seems at first glance everyday, ordinary and banal — in short, life. Michal heads the Studio of Fine Art Photography at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Ostrava.
Taťka: magazine presentation
The Brno artist Dana Balážová will present the samizdat magazine Taťka (Daddy), which she makes together with the Olomouc graphic artist Jakub Kovařík. Why not put together & publish your own magazine when the existing ones aren’t enough for you?
